FAQs
Q1. Do I need a referral?”
A1. No referral is required; however most of our clients are referred.
Q2. My partner and I both work from 9.00am – 5.00pm. Can you see my child at school?
A2. Yes, this can be arranged.
Q3. What does an assessment involve?
A3. Extensive background/developmental history; Formal (standardised assessments) and Informal (observation, surveys/questionnaires) evaluation measures in a range of communication settings in which the child interacts; Feedback and Discussion of outcomes; Planning for the future.
Q4. Is there a particular age that my child should start therapy?
A4. If you think your child is experiencing difficulty with their communication (e.g. late to start talking, has a limited spoken vocabulary or does not have a good understanding of language) it is never too early to seek help and consult a speech pathologist about your concerns and commence intervention if deemed necessary. Research has shown that the earlier we start to help children the better their outcomes.
Q5. Will my Childs speech improve with time?
A5. A large percentage of children appear to catch up with their peers by the time they enter school without intervention however it can be difficult to predict which children will not catch up to their peers. Studies show that even though some children appear to catch up to their peers in speech and language areas there may be certain features of language use where the child does not perform as well as their peers.
Q6. Is stuttering normal in young Children?
A6. Many children who develop stuttering may recover without formal treatment, however it is too difficult to identify which children will recover and which children will require treatment. If your child has been stuttering for more than six months, it is recommended to seek the advice of a speech pathologist.
Q7. Where are the therapy sessions held?
A7. Therapy sessions maybe conducted at the clinic or in a setting that is appropriate for the child (school, childcare, preschool/kindergarten).
Q8. What is the cost?
A8. Please contact us for specific pricing and further information. Your child may also be eligible for funding through Medicare. Additionally, your Private Health Insurer may cover Speech Pathology Services. Contact your provider for further information.
